THE CANADIAN NAVY

Formed in 1910, with a act of parliament, the Royal Canadian Navy was the offspring of the British Royal Navy.  Intent on having its own navy, Canada bought a couple of old destroyers from England, manned them with British officers and Canadian men, and began defending its own coasts.  The first few years were trying times, and between the wars (WWI and WWII) the navy was almost disbanded.  Through it all, though, the Canadian Navy developed and matured into the force that it is today, a proud, proven, and professional naval fleet.  Below are links to each of the major vessels in the Pacific Fleet, based in Esquimalt, British Columbia, Canada.

HMCS Huron - the flag ship of the Pacific Fleet.

HMCS Vancouver - the first frigate to join the Pacific Fleet.

HMCS Regina - Saskatchewan's provincial city representative.

HMCS Calgary - the "Chuckwagon" of the fleet.

HMCS Winnipeg - the "Mighty Buffalo" from the plains.

HMCS Ottawa - the fourth ship to bear this name of our national capital.

HMCS Protecteur - the "big" tanker for the fleet.

HMCS Moresby - the "little" tanker for the reserve fleet.
